Privacy policy

We collect your work email and ZIP code when you ask for a free sample, and your email, pack and amount when you buy credits. We don't sell personal information, and the site currently has no ad trackers or analytics cookies.

This policy explains what Hexoglyph Holdings, LLC ("Hexoglyph," "we," "us" or "our") collects when you use meterwhale.com and the MeterWhale service (the "Service"), why we collect it, and who handles it for us. MeterWhale is a brand of Hexoglyph Holdings, LLC, which also runs NumberBroom.

By using the Service, you acknowledge this policy. Words defined in our Terms of service, such as Prospect, Prospect List and Credits, mean the same here.

1. What we collect from you

Work email and ZIP code
When you ask for a free sample. We use them to email you 10 Prospects from that Texas ZIP code.
Purchase record
When you buy a credit pack. Stripe, our payment processor, tells us your email address, the pack you bought and the amount. We use it to give you your Credits, deliver your Prospect Lists and keep our accounting records.
IP address
When you submit a form on meterwhale.com. Our form handler uses it briefly to limit abuse, such as one connection sending the sample form over and over.
Unsubscribe request
When you unsubscribe at meterwhale.com/unsubscribe. We add your email address to a suppression list so we don't email you again.
Emails you send us
When you write to contactus@meterwhale.com, for example to report a bad phone. We keep your message and our reply for 3 years after the conversation's last message, so we can answer you and keep a record of what was asked and done.
How you found us
When you ask for a free sample or start a checkout. A small script on our pages notes the campaign tags on the link you followed, the website that sent you and the first page you saw, and we save them with your request or purchase, so we can tell which channels bring buyers.

We never see your card number: Stripe collects and holds your card details. MeterWhale has no user accounts, so you don't create a password with us. Stripe may collect other details at checkout and handles them under its own privacy policy.

2. Cookies, analytics and fonts

meterwhale.com currently has no ad trackers and no analytics cookies. If that changes, we will update this policy.

The script described in Section 1 keeps what it notes in your browser's local storage for up to 90 days, not in a cookie. It holds only those campaign tags, a website's name and a page address, and it leaves your browser only when you send the sample form or follow a checkout link. No analytics company receives it. You can remove it by clearing this site's data in your browser.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which handles the technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, in order to deliver pages to you.

Our pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser fetches them from Google's servers, and Google receives your IP address and browser details with that request.

3. How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Send you the free sample you asked for;
  • Process your purchases, keep track of your Credits and deliver your Prospect Lists. For each buyer we keep the checkout email, the packs bought and their dates, the Credit balance and the Prospects delivered;
  • Leave Prospects with no phone found off your bill, and credit back bad phones you report;
  • Answer your emails;
  • Limit abuse of our forms;
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests; and
  • Email you about MeterWhale. If you ask for a free sample, we send at most 2 follow-up emails about it. Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe at meterwhale.com/unsubscribe.

We do not sell personal information.

4. Who handles your information

We share information only with the companies that run parts of the Service for us, and in the cases below.

  • Cloudflare hosts the site and runs our form handler, its database and our email delivery. Your sample request and your purchase records (your email address, the packs you bought and the prospects they paid for) are processed and stored there. So are the emails you send us and our replies, which are sent through it. A copy of each email you send us also goes to our company mailbox.
  • Stripe processes payments. It collects and holds your card details, and sends us your email address, the pack you bought and the amount. It also sees how you found us, because that travels in the checkout link.
  • Google Fonts serves the fonts on our pages, as described in Section 2.
  • A third-party phone verification provider checks the phone numbers in Prospect Lists. We run the check fresh for each buyer at the time of sale. The numbers checked are business phones from our data sources. We send the provider only the phone number, nothing that identifies you.
  • Legal compliance. We may disclose information when required by law, regulation, legal process or a government request.
  • Business transfers. If Hexoglyph or MeterWhale is merged, acquired or sold, information may be transferred to the new owner, subject to the protections in this policy.

5. Businesses in our Prospect Lists

Prospect Lists describe businesses, not consumers. A Prospect holds a business's name, its address, the phone and website listed for it, facts about its electric meter from ERCOT's public meter file, and the results of our phone checks. It does not include the names of decision-makers or anyone else at the business. Each source is listed on Data sources and licenses.

We don't call, text or email the businesses in our lists. Buyers who contact them are responsible for doing so lawfully.

If you run a business in our lists and want it left out, email contactus@meterwhale.com with the business name and address. Within 10 business days we leave it out of every list we deliver from then on.

6. How long we keep it

  • Sample requests: 24 months after the request.
  • Purchase records: at least five years, for financial recordkeeping. Stripe keeps its own records of each payment.
  • IP addresses used to limit form abuse: we never store the address itself, only a salted, shortened hash of it, and we delete the hash after 7 days.
  • Suppression list: indefinitely, so that we never email an address that unsubscribed.
  • Emails with us: 3 years after the conversation's last message.
  • How you found us: as long as the sample request or purchase record it's saved with, and up to 90 days in your browser.
  • Backups: we copy our database every day and keep each copy for 35 days.

You can ask us to delete your information at any time by emailing contactus@meterwhale.com. We will still keep what the law requires us to keep, such as purchase records, and your entry on our suppression list, because a request not to be emailed has to outlast everything else. Anything we delete stays in a backup until that backup expires, within 35 days, and we delete the copies in our company mailbox by hand.

7. Security

We use administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, change, disclosure or destruction. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access: get a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correction: have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected;
  • Deletion: have your information deleted, subject to legal retention requirements;
  • Opt out: stop marketing email at any time; and
  • Portability: get your information in a structured, machine-readable format where technically feasible.

To use any of these rights, email contactus@meterwhale.com.

9. California residents

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act give you further rights, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to ask us to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing.

We do not sell personal information. To make a verifiable request, email contactus@meterwhale.com.

10. Children's privacy

The Service is not meant for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.

11. International data transfers

Information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to that transfer, including to places whose data protection laws differ from those where you live.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version here and change the date at the top. If you keep using the Service after a change is posted, you accept the updated policy.
